Sol 14k Gold Plate Necklace

This necklace started with thread, which is not where you’d expect a piece of metal jewelry to begin.

CŌG’s Sol Necklace takes spiraled fibers, gathers them into a dimensional sphere, and casts the whole thing in metal, preserving every tiny twist and irregularity along the way. The result is a 1.5-inch pendant that looks somewhere between a ball of thread, a small sculpture, and the sun it was named after. Finished in 14k gold over reclaimed brass, all that texture catches the light differently every time it moves, giving the substantial shape a surprising amount of life. A long 22-inch loop chain lets it hang low enough to make a statement without requiring an entire outfit to be constructed around it. Apparently the difference between tangled thread and sculpture is knowing when to stop untangling it.

About the Brand:  CŌG

CŌG makes jewelry like someone who couldn't quite decide between becoming a jeweler, textile artist, or sculptor, and fortunately never bothered choosing. Founded by designer Jen Cogliantry in 2018, CŌG draws from textile design, sculpture, landscapes, and artists including Alexander Calder, Sheila Hicks, and Eva Hesse. Rather than beginning with gemstones or conventional jewelry forms, the work often starts with fiber:  threads are wrapped, twisted, knotted, and shaped before being translated into metal. Reclaimed brass and other thoughtfully chosen materials give those textile experiments a more permanent second life, while each piece is made in New York. The result sits somewhere between adornment and wearable sculpture.
