Ome Vase

The Ome looks vaguely familiar, which only makes it stranger.

Hand-built using a slab-building technique, ALMa Design Studio’s Ome Vase treats clay less like something to throw on a wheel and more like something to construct. Broad planes, exaggerated curves, and a strong sculptural silhouette give it the presence of a small piece of architecture, while the evidence of the hand keeps all that geometry from becoming too perfect. Add branches or flowers and it becomes a vessel. Leave it completely empty and very little about the object feels unfinished. The flowers are welcome. They’re just not responsible for making the vase interesting.

About the Brand:  ALMa Design Studio

Alejandra and Luis Magaña make ceramics like people who eventually realized the useful object and the art object didn’t have to be two different things. The husband-and-wife designers behind ALMa began working together in ceramics years before officially establishing the studio in 2024. Formerly known as Echeri Ceramics, their practice grew from handmade dinnerware into a broader exploration of sculpture, furniture, interiors, and objects for the home. Working from Northern California and drawing from their Mexican heritage, pre-Hispanic forms, color, and the everyday world around them, Alejandra and Luis create pieces that sit somewhere between function and sculpture. Clay remains at the center of the work, but the larger idea is about making ordinary spaces feel more expressive, personal, and alive.
