Monolith Candle Holders

Candlesticks have been standing up straight and behaving themselves for centuries. These appear to have other plans.

Dune Brooklyn’s Monolith Candle Holders turn the simple act of holding a taper into something considerably more geological. Sculpted entirely by hand from clay, their irregular silhouettes take their cues from desert mesas, rock formations, and the strange monumental shapes nature manages to produce without consulting anyone about symmetry. Add a taper and the whole thing becomes part candleholder, part tiny landscape. Leave it empty and it still earns its place as a small sculptural object. Because every piece is formed individually by hand in Brooklyn, no two shapes, surfaces, or imperfections will be exactly alike. Apparently even a candle can benefit from having slightly more interesting terrain beneath it.

About the Brand:  Dune Brooklyn

Dune Brooklyn seems interested in the things sitting around your house that nobody thought were worth designing yet. The Brooklyn studio makes small-batch ceramic objects for everyday rituals: candleholders, match strikers, dishes, and other pieces that live somewhere between useful tool and tiny sculpture. The approach is deliberately tactile and imperfect, with raw materials, organic shapes, and evidence of the hand left visible rather than polished out of existence. A match holder could obviously just be a container with matches in it. Dune Brooklyn would apparently prefer it resemble a geological formation and make striking the match part of the experience. This is probably unnecessary. It is also exactly why the object is worth having.
