The Khadi Necklace from The Millhouse Collection takes its cue from Mahatma Gandhi’s idea of the “Khadi spirit,” a belief in surrounding ourselves with simplicity in everyday life. Here, that translates into a single freshwater pearl hand-strung on silk with tiny Japanese seed beads and finished with 14k gold-filled details. There isn’t much to it, which is precisely why every part matters. The pearl brings its own natural irregularity, the silk keeps the piece delicate, and the tiny beads add just enough detail to reward looking closer. It sits close to the neck and feels less like jewelry engineered to announce itself than something you might simply keep wearing until taking it off starts to feel strange. Turns out simplicity can have quite a lot going on.
