PUEBCO’s Handloomed Recycled Yarn Rug is made in an Indian textile town where discarded fabric is given another job. Recycled fibers are spun, dyed, and woven by skilled artisans on traditional handlooms, creating shifts in density, texture, and color that a machine would probably consider mistakes and the rest of us might call the entire point. It’s an easy size to layer into a bedroom, define a reading corner, or give an otherwise uneventful stretch of floor something to do. Each rug will be a little different because the materials themselves are different, and the small-scale production process makes efficient use of textiles that already existed. Turns out the leftovers can be considerably more interesting than whatever they were originally supposed to become.

PUEBCO has a habit of looking at things the rest of us have finished with and deciding they aren't finished yet. Founded in Japan in 2007, PUEBCO works with salvaged, recycled, and repurposed materials, including military tents, old uniforms, mail bags, truck upholstery, parachutes, and industrial fabrics, turning them into bags, clothing, rugs, storage, and objects for the home. Pieces are produced in small batches, and the quirks of the original materials are often left visible rather than engineered away.  The result isn't sustainability disguised as pristine newness. Things look reused, reconsidered, occasionally imperfect, and considerably more interesting because of it.
