'Dapple 4th Variation' | Greyya Jay

Twenty-two dots is apparently enough to make a rectangle feel strangely ancient.

Hand-sculpted and painted by Greyya Jay in her Minneapolis studio, Dapple 4th Variation pairs a simple field of raised dots with layers of ivory, creamy beige, tan, and brown patina. The surface feels weathered and almost archaeological, while the restrained geometry keeps the whole thing firmly in the present.

Each version is individually sculpted and painted, so the patina, texture, and small irregularities shift from one piece to the next. It can hang vertically or horizontally, which also means there is no particularly compelling reason to agree on which way is up.
