Handcrafted from terracotta by artisans in Sabana Grande, Honduras, the Celia Candle Holder takes a fairly ordinary household function and gives it something resembling architectural ambition. Its tall, slender silhouette features softly scalloped edges, a chalky white finish, and the kind of tactile irregularities that make handmade objects worth looking at twice. Designed to hold a single taper candle, Celia brings a little sculptural interest to a dining table, mantel, or shelf, with or without an actual flame involved. At just over seven inches tall, it has enough presence to stand alone without demanding an entire decorating strategy. Sometimes the supporting character turns out to be the most interesting thing in the room.
