Because apparently listening to a record can have a drink pairing. This is excellent news.

Booze & Vinyl by André and Tenaya Darlington pairs 70 great albums with cocktails designed for the occasion, finally bringing some organizational rigor to the ancient practice of drinking while listening to music. The records stretch from the 1950s through the 2000s and include Bowie, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Beastie Boys, Amy Winehouse, the Beach Boys, Madonna, Michael Jackson, and plenty of other people who probably never anticipated their work would someday determine what you put in a coupe glass. Each album gets liner notes plus Side A and Side B cocktail recipes inspired by its mood, lyrics, imagery, or artist, with the whole thing organized into useful categories like Rock, Chill, Dance, and Seduce. Beautifully photographed and dangerously easy to use, it’s essentially permission to turn putting on a record into more of an event than the situation technically requires. Which, come to think of it, is what both records and cocktails have been doing all along.

About the Authors:  André and Tenaya Darlington

André and Tenaya Darlington are Philadelphia-based writers whose overlapping interests include cocktails, food, music, wine, cheese, and finding increasingly specific reasons to combine several of those things at once. Together they’ve written Booze & Vinyl, The New Cocktail Hour, and Movie Night Menus, establishing a fairly convincing argument that staying home can require just as much planning as going out.
